Dataquest to gather a snapshot of <strong>electronic</strong> <strong>design</strong> methodology and<br />

usage trends. Relying upon Dataquesf s international expertise, slaveys<br />

distributed in Japan were translated into kanji, the Japanese<br />

character set, in order to improve the survey's accuracy. Dataquest<br />

received statistically significant numbers of responses in all areas and<br />

bases current and future end-user trends upon these data.<br />

Supply-Side Data<br />

In the fourth quarter of each year, Dataquest surveys all major participants<br />

in the EDA industry to obtain preliminary market share data.<br />

Each vendor is offered the opportunity to self-report the information<br />

required. Although there is a primary contact for each company, large<br />

companies are surveyed across product lines and across geographic<br />

regions. Thus, there is a corresponding increase in the number of contact<br />

at large companies. Examples of ilie job titles of people contacted<br />

for information are the following:<br />

• Vice President of Marketing<br />

• "Wee President, Strategic Product Planning<br />

• Market Research Analyst<br />

We resurvey select companies during the second quarter of the following<br />

year to verify final annual results and determine the <strong>CAE</strong><br />

granularity. The information in this document is based upon these<br />

final market share data.<br />

Data supplied by vendors are evaluated against information drawn<br />

from many sources including the following:<br />

• Revenue published by major industry participants<br />

• Estimates made by knowledgeable and reliable industry<br />

spokespersons<br />

• Government data or trade association data<br />

• Published product literature and price lists<br />

• Annual reports, SEC documents, credit reports<br />

• Company publications and press releases<br />

• Reports from financial analysts<br />

• Reseller and supplier reports and reports from a vendor's<br />
