THE COURSE GUIDE<br />

INTRODUCTION<br />

This course consists <strong>of</strong> fourteen (14) units divided into two modules which<br />

provide basic knowledge for the learners about Comparative Education. The course<br />

spreads through topics such as: Education, the scope <strong>of</strong> Comparative Education,<br />

historical development <strong>of</strong> Comparative Education, approaches to the study <strong>of</strong><br />

Comparative Education, determinants <strong>of</strong> <strong>National</strong> Education System, the Future <strong>of</strong><br />

Comparative Education, Japanese Education, the System <strong>of</strong> Education in Brazil,<br />

Education in England, Education in France, the system <strong>of</strong> Education in Jamaica, Teacher<br />

Education in <strong>Nigeria</strong> and Tanzania and Education in Afghanistan.<br />

THE COURSE GUIDE<br />

This course Guide is out to teach you about things you should expect from<br />

reading this material. Taking the learners through the concept <strong>of</strong> <strong>edu</strong>cation will enhance<br />

their knowledge about <strong>edu</strong>cation.<br />

Exposing the students to the scope <strong>of</strong> Comparative Education will afford the<br />

students the opportunity to understand that the subject is an interdisciplinary subject.<br />

In the same vein, the knowledge <strong>of</strong> historical development <strong>of</strong> Comparative<br />

Education will assist the students to have a better understanding <strong>of</strong> the subject.<br />

Exposing the learners to approaches to the study <strong>of</strong> Comparative Education will<br />

afford them the opportunity to know the various methods which can be used to study<br />

the discipline.<br />

Taking the learners through the determinants <strong>of</strong> <strong>National</strong> Education System will<br />

help the learners to identify the factors that can help in the formulation <strong>of</strong> <strong>edu</strong>cation<br />

policy.<br />

The knowledge <strong>of</strong> the future <strong>of</strong> Comparative Education will give the learners<br />

broader knowledge about the subject.<br />

Also, exposing the students to foreign <strong>edu</strong>cation systems such as Japanese<br />

<strong>edu</strong>cation, the system <strong>of</strong> <strong>edu</strong>cation in Brazil, <strong>edu</strong>cation in England, <strong>edu</strong>cation in<br />

America <strong>edu</strong>cation in France, the System <strong>of</strong> <strong>edu</strong>cation in Jamaica, Teacher <strong>edu</strong>cation in<br />

<strong>Nigeria</strong> and Tanzania and <strong>edu</strong>cation in Afghanistan will afford the students the<br />

opportunity to understand what is going on in the area <strong>of</strong> <strong>edu</strong>cation in other countries<br />

<strong>of</strong> the world. This will also help them to be in the position to compare and contrast the<br />

practices <strong>of</strong> <strong>edu</strong>cation in <strong>Nigeria</strong> and other countries <strong>of</strong> the world.<br />

COURSE AIMS<br />

This course intends to provide an opportunity for the learners to understand<br />

better the practices <strong>of</strong> <strong>edu</strong>cation not only in their country but also other countries <strong>of</strong> the<br />

world.<br />

COURSE OBJECTIVES<br />

Specifically, this course sets to achieve the objectives below:<br />

(a) Explain the meaning <strong>of</strong> <strong>edu</strong>cation<br />
