duly sworn did depose and say: I was born at New York<br />

City, State of New York, 13 of July, date, 1873; that<br />

my father's name is Ignatius Frank; that he was born in<br />

the State of New York, and that I am a native American<br />

citizen.<br />

I embarked on the S. S. Ancona at Naples on the 5th day<br />

of November, 1915, accompanied by ; that I<br />

(or had) in my possession a certificate of naturalization<br />

just finished luncheon and had just finished my coffee<br />

when I heard and saw noise and movement outside of the<br />

dining-room deck.<br />

on the deck I jumped up from the table and looked<br />

out of the window to the left and saw approximately a<br />

silhouette (the boat was very clear but I could only see<br />

the silhouettes of the men). • We had a fog and I saw<br />

approximately a dozen men at the guns.<br />

of a brake being put on suddenly and I had a definite<br />

sensation that something was wrong with the ship.<br />

of the flag at the time.<br />

Answer to Question No. 12. I am thoroughly conversant<br />

with European customs. My father is the descendant<br />

of Austrians; I speak German perfectly; took postgraduate<br />

medical courses in Vienna and Berlin; have<br />

visited relatives of my mother in Berlin; but I cannot<br />

answer the question, as nothing was sufficiently definite.<br />

Answer to Question No. IS. To the best of my knowledge<br />

and belief, the stopping of the ship was previous<br />

to the firing of the first shot.
