Barcelona, April H, 1916.<br />

Kussian barkentine Imperator with cargo timber from<br />

Gulfport, Mississippi, bound for Marseille, France, thrice<br />

shot at by cannon without warning, one taking effect<br />

and vessel subsequently set afire by Austrian submarine<br />

near Columbretes Islands off Spanish Mediterranean<br />

coast April eleventh. Imperator carried two American<br />

citizens in crew, Gustave Olson and Aner Swennsson;<br />

former now in hospital Barcelona with shrapnel wounds.<br />

Swennsson uninjured.
