The lovely aroma of this wine is typical of
the terroir of the cool-climate Elgin Valley: it
has an upfront nose of freshly cut grass and
nettles, balanced by some tropical tones and
gooseberries. The nose follows through on the
palate, with a strong core of minerality keeping
it all together. Almenkerk Wine Estate is one
of a few cellars in the country that boasts an
inert press. The result is a wine with a higher
concentration of flavours and aromas.

Deep dark red colour with a brown edge.
Lovely aromas of Christmas cake followed by
some earthy flavours and a touch of nuttiness.
The wine is soft but rich on the palate. Layers
of flavour bring more fruitcake and nuances of
berry fruit. The tannins are still firm but subtle,
with a complex structure. A great wine that
shows amazing maturity after 30 years but
still has time to go.
