Orange River Wine Cellars
Oranje River Wine Cellars is situated in
possibly the world’s most unique wine
growing region. For approximately 300
kilometres next to the Orange River near
the Northern Cape town of Upington, the
river has created an oasis. Fertile soils,
fed by waters of the river, the temperate
climate and clean desert air ensure that
the grapes obtain a fruitiness, from which
extremely drinkable wines are made. Five
wineries make up the cellars: Keimoes,
Kakamas, Grootdrink, Upington and
Groblershoop.

aromas combine with dusty raisiny sweetness
providing great intensity, a concentration of
fruit and ending in an amazing rich aftertaste.
Overgaauw
Overgaauw was founded in 1905, and for
the past century the Van Veldens have done
pioneering work and produced acclaimed
wines. Fourth generation winemaker David
van Velden’s winemaking starts with
meticulous vineyard management ensuring
the best fruit possible from the southfacing
vineyards, while in the cellar the
focus is on retaining the varietal character.
Very few things remain exceptional for four
generations, but Overgaauw’s wines have
done just that.

This Cape Port was produced from six
Portuguese varieties and fortified with brandy
spirits, followed by a two-year maturation
period in 70-year-old wooden casks. This Port
shows the impressive integration that time
can bring. Tantalising layers of stewed prunes,
orange peel and tea leaves are supported by
an elegant, silky, seamlessly-balanced palate.
A Port in true vintage style, with ageing
potential for at least 25 years from vintage.
