Particulate air pollution (PM) is a global problem, which is responsible for large variety<br />

<strong>of</strong> adverse health outcomes. EU has decided to increase the use <strong>of</strong> biomass energy<br />

to 20% on average from the total energy consumption by 2020. Since large<br />

proportion <strong>of</strong> PM emissions are derived from small scale combustion, it is important<br />

to reveal the effects <strong>of</strong> the combustion technology, user practice and fuel type<br />

or quality on these emissions. <strong>The</strong> effects <strong>of</strong> these factors on toxicological properties<br />

are still poorly known. In this study, we compared the adverse health effects induced<br />

by PM-samples collected from new (woodchip boiler) and old (logwood<br />
