f) Meetings with NGOs<br />
City Development Plan for Agra City in the state of Uttar Pradesh under <strong>JNNURM</strong><br />
A meeting with NGOs was held on 25th & 26th<br />
June, 2006 representatives from bilateral<br />
agencies and NGO’s like Sankalp, CSE and<br />
Sulabh International. The meeting was called for<br />
in response to City Development Plan.<br />
Following issues has been raised by the NGOs<br />
• Water supply in limited area of the city with<br />
low pressure<br />
• T junctions as compared to crossing creates<br />
more congestions<br />
• They mentioned that there is complete<br />
absence of any traffic management in the<br />
city, and no one adheres to the traffic rules.<br />
• The NGO volunteers raised the issue that only newly planned areas have access to open<br />
spaces, gardens etc. There is an inherent need for developing lung spaces.<br />
• Another important issue raised is the condition of drains in the city is very poor and most<br />
of the drains remained choked throughout the year.<br />
• The NGO members felt the quality of water is very poor and the quantity becomes a<br />
major problem in many areas of the city during summers.<br />
a. Meeting with Supreme Court Representative<br />
As per meeting with the Supreme Court<br />
representative following are the foremost<br />
priority issues for the Agra city:<br />
• Provision of potable water<br />
• Cleanliness in the city<br />
• Solutions to the traffic related problems<br />
• Upkeep and maintenance of tourist<br />
spots<br />
• Night attraction to attract tourists<br />
• Illumination of Taj Mahal<br />
12.3.3 Workshops on formulation of City Vision<br />
As part of the consultation process a full day<br />
Stakeholder Workshop was held on 26th June 2006<br />
at Youth Hostel, Agra. For this workshop<br />
stakeholders from central, state and local<br />
government, also non-governmental organizations,<br />
experts from varied fields, RWAs, Associations –<br />
traders, transporters, petha industry, shoe-making<br />
industry etc. were invited. The main aim of the<br />
workshop was to present the findings of the rapid<br />
assessment and to formulate vision for the city, also<br />
to obtain feedback from the stakeholders, through<br />
group discussions, on the priority issues affecting<br />
