5. It is important to build on the research <strong>and</strong> recommendations by national <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternational<br />
agencies that were already available prior to undertak<strong>in</strong>g the present work.<br />
Of particular importance is the document published by <strong>FAO</strong> <strong>in</strong> 1997 with<strong>in</strong> the framework of<br />
Technical Guidel<strong>in</strong>es for Responsible Fisheries, which focuses on aquaculture development. The ma<strong>in</strong><br />
conclusions relevant for the legislative <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>stitutional framework are summarized <strong>in</strong> the table<br />
