5.0 OTHER REQUIREMENTS 5.1 The coating plant, equipment, machinery and other facilities shall be in good operating condition to meet the job requirement of quality and production. Worn out or improvised plant is not acceptable. The coating plant for the work shall be of size and capacity that shall be suitable for the scale of the work production rate & time schedule specified elsewhere in the document. 5.2 Contractor shall, at his own responsibility and cost, provide and prepare all necessary area for the storage of pipes and all other materials for coating yard, stock piling, and other temporary installation. Contractor shall provide necessary agreements as required with the relevant authorities/land owners, and on work completion, to clean, restore and pay settlements and claim for damages. 5.3 Contractor shall, at his own responsibility and cost, arrange all necessary land/area for dumpsite for the storage of coated/bare pipes, approach road and all other equipments and materials, stock piling and other temporary installation. Contractor shall make necessary agreements as required with the relevant authorities/land owners, and on work completion, to clean, restore and pay settlements, and claim for damages. Restoration and handing over of dumpsite land shall be the responsibility of Contractor. 5.4 Contractor shall, at his own responsibility and cost, provide water and power supply and other utilities, obtain permit regarding access roads and other permits required for the execution of works conforming to all the requirements of the governing authorities. 5.5 Contractor shall, at his own expenses, provide a fully equipped laboratory and test facilities with adequate inventory to carry out tests required for the procedure qualification and during regular production. 5.6 All handling, loading, unloading, stacking / storing shall be done in such a manner as to minimize mechanical damages & corrosion and as per the procedure approved by the Owner. (i) All handling shall be done with slings or padded hooks. (ii) Trailers shall be cleaned of debris or any other substance that might damage the pipe. (iii) Suitable timber and other dunnage shall be used to protect the pipes against the damage during transit. (iv) Loading shall be done in accordance with API RP 5L1 and procedure approved by the Owner. (v) Finished pipe to be stored for a significant period of time in the coating yard in a manner to prevent corrosion and damages to the coating. 5.7 At the designated place of issue of bare Linepipes by Owner, the Contractor shall perform visual inspection of the bare pipes in the presence of Owner representative at the time of "taking over" and all damages shall be recorded. These defects will be repaired by Contractor as per rates set forth in the tender document. Repair of GAIL (INDIA) LIMITED COATING & TRANSPORTATION SCOPE OF WORK - 6
all damages occurring and/or noted after taking over the delivery of linepipes shall be to the Contractor's account. 5.8 At the time of handing over to Installation Agency at dumpsite, the bare and coated pipes shall be inspected visually and using holiday detection methods by the Contractor in the presence of Owner's representative for damages occurring to pipes and/ or coating during handling and transportation. COATING Contractor shall repair all such defects recorded at the time of handing over to Installation Agency and all such repairs shall be to Contractor's account. Contractor shall handover only good pipes to Installation Agency. All handling, lifting etc. required for inspection of pipes shall be carried out by the Contractor. Contractor shall engage adequate number of manpower required during handing over of bare/coated pipes to Installation Agency. Contractor shall hand over the coated/bare pipes to Installation Agency progressively based on construction requirement. Contractor shall load the coated/bare pipes on to the truck/trailer (provided by Installation Agency) at the time of handing over. 5.9 A typical layout of dumpsite, sketch no. Coating & Transportation –Scope of work (page 10 of 10) is enclosed with tender for reference purposes. 5.10 The bare/coated pipes within the dumpsite may be stacked by placing them on ridges of sand, free from stones and covered with a plastic film including supply of sand and other materials. The cover may consist of dry, germ free straw with a plastic film, otherwise foam rubber shall be used. The support shall be spaced in such a manner so as to avoid permanent bending of the pipes. Bare pipe stacks shall consist of limited number of layers such that deformation of the pipe is avoided. In case of coated pipes, stacks shall consist of limited number of layers so that the pressure exercised by the pipe's own weight does not cause deformation of the line pipe / damages to coating. Each section shall be separated by means of spacers suitably spaced for this purpose. The weld bead of pipes shall be positioned in such a manner so as not to touch the adjacent pipes. Coated pipes stacked in open shall be suitably covered on top to decrease direct exposure to sunlight. 5.11 A coating specialist shall be made available during entire duration of coating works. 5.12 Coating wastage generated due to standard cut backs shall be the property of the Contractor and shall be disposed off by the Contractor. For the purpose of measurement of coated lengths, cut back length shall also be considered as coated length and shall be paid accordingly. 6.0 LIST OF SPECIFICATIONS AND DRAWINGS Following specifications are enclosed herewith : 1.
