HEALTH ADMINISTRATION<br />
Concentration in Long-Term-Care Administration<br />
Students seeking a career in long-term care administration can select a sequence <strong>of</strong><br />
courses in Health Administration, Business, and Gerontology, including a 1040 clock-hour<br />
HADM internship. This program <strong>of</strong> study prepares the student for job opportunities in nursing<br />
homes, assisted living, adult day care and work with chronically ill populations. Upon<br />
successful completion <strong>of</strong> the curriculum, students will have met the educational requirements<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Pennsylvania State Board <strong>of</strong> Licensure for Nursing Home Administrators and<br />
be eligible to take the state licensure examination for long-term care administrators. <strong>The</strong><br />
Health Administration curriculum forms the infrastructure for the LTCA concentration. It<br />
includes 40 credits <strong>of</strong> HADM courses, continues the 21 credit Business minor and features<br />
12 credits <strong>of</strong> Gerontology courses. A service learning component is integrated into one<br />
required course per semester, with a minimum <strong>of</strong> 10 service hours required per semester.<br />
<strong>The</strong> HADM/LTCA track increases the credits for the Health Administration degree from<br />
131 for the regular HADM major to 134. Students may also earn a second minor, in<br />
Gerontology, by taking Soc 110 and Gero 230.<br />

Administration<br />
(Prerequisite: PSYC 210, majors only)<br />
Principles and processes <strong>of</strong> research in<br />
health administration including literature,<br />
review, research design, data-collection<br />
techniques, statistical analysis and pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
writing in generating new knowledge<br />
and in using research in administration.<br />
A 10-hour service-learning component<br />
is integrated into this course.<br />
HADM 312 Staff<br />
*Health Finance 3 credits<br />
(Prerequisite: ACC 253 or 254 or permission<br />
<strong>of</strong> instructor) <strong>The</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> health care<br />
in society with emphasis on financial concepts<br />
and reimbursement mechanisms for<br />
health providers. A 10-hour service-learning<br />
component is integrated into this course.<br />
HADM 314 Staff<br />
Health Care Policy 3 credits<br />
(HADM Junior and Senior standing) Public<br />
policy in the health care sector is studied,<br />
including the policy-making process.<br />
Implications <strong>of</strong> governmental policies for<br />
health-care organizations and administrators<br />
are discussed.<br />

Health Administration<br />
(Prerequisite: HADM 211 or permission<br />
<strong>of</strong> instructor, HADM majors and minors<br />
only) Focuses on the effects <strong>of</strong> cultural<br />
diversity on health-care administration.<br />
Emphasis is placed on the importance <strong>of</strong><br />
assessing and addressing the health care<br />
needs <strong>of</strong> various cultural groups within a<br />
given health-care service area. A 10-hour<br />
service-learning component is integrated<br />
into this course.<br />
HADM 316 Staff<br />
Health Care Marketing 3 credits<br />
Marketing theories, concepts, strategies,<br />
methods and techniques are studied and<br />
applied to health care. <strong>The</strong> unique aspects<br />
<strong>of</strong> health-care services and health-care<br />
organizations are considered as they pertain<br />
to marketing.<br />
HADM 317 Staff<br />
Work-force Development 3 credits<br />
(Cross-listed with HRS 252) Training and<br />
development <strong>of</strong> employees within various<br />
health-care delivery systems will be examined.<br />
Adult learning theories and the role<br />
<strong>of</strong> the training function will be critically<br />
reviewed. An in-depth study and application<br />
<strong>of</strong> the training process will require<br />
students to design, develop, implement<br />
and evaluate a training program.
