<strong>The</strong> residential program allows students to experience many aspects <strong>of</strong> college life as<br />

they attend daily classes, live in dorms, eat in campus dining halls, and participate in nightly<br />

academic, social, and recreational activities. Residential students arrive each week on<br />

Sunday at 6:00 p.m. and depart each Friday at 5:00 p.m. A commuter option allows students<br />

to participate in the 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. daily schedule. Limited scholarships are available.<br />

Students with a B or better grade-point average are eligible for the program. Students<br />

with grade-point averages below a B may be admitted if they obtain a letter <strong>of</strong> recommendation<br />

from a school <strong>of</strong>ficial. All students must include a current grade report with the program<br />

application. Participation is limited and students are selected on a first come, first<br />

Arts Alive<br />

Arts Alive is an intensive four-week program for students in grades 9, 10, and 11 who<br />

are interested in the arts. Pr<strong>of</strong>essional artists teach courses in painting, sculpture, photography,<br />

three-dimensional art, theatre, dance, music, poetry, and television and radio communications.<br />

K-12 teachers can also participate in the program as students and earn six graduate<br />

credits from the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Arts or six Pennsylvania in-service graduate credits.<br />

Arts Alive is sponsored by <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong>; NEIU #19; Keystone College;<br />

local school districts; the Pennsylvania Council <strong>of</strong> the Arts; the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Arts,<br />

Philadelphia; and Fleet Bank.<br />

Residential or commuter options are available. Many school districts <strong>of</strong>fer scholarships<br />

for artistically talented students. For additional information, students should contact<br />

FINANCIAL AID FOR DEXTER HANLEY COLLEGE STUDENTS<br />

At the present time Hanley College students are eligible to apply for several forms <strong>of</strong><br />

federal and state financial aid. Eligibility for all grants, loans, and institutional aid requires<br />

the student to submit the <strong>University</strong> Application for Scholarship and Financial Aid and the<br />

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). <strong>The</strong> student must also submit signed<br />

copies <strong>of</strong> the tax information for the student and spouse/parent (if required). Priority deadline<br />

for incoming students is May 1st. Returning students must file by April 15th.<br />

In addition to the federal and state financial-aid programs, Hanley students are eligible<br />

to apply for the following institutional-aid programs.<br />

Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency<br />

Dexter Hanley College students are eligible to apply for PHEAA grants if they are taking<br />

six credits a semester.<br />

Pell Grants<br />

Dexter Hanley College students taking at least three credits a semester are eligible to<br />

apply for federal grants administered under the Pell Grant program.<br />

Dexter Hanley Full-time and Part-time Grants<br />

Full-time and part-time grants are awarded to Hanley College students who demonstrate<br />

need, academic progress, and enrollment status <strong>of</strong> at least six credits. Awards range<br />

from $500 to $3,500/yr.<br />
