THE ROAD SCHOLARSHIP—James C. Barrett, ’73 and president <strong>of</strong> Road Scholar Transport,<br />

established this scholarship for his employees and their families.<br />

THE JOHN M. ROBINSON SCHOLARSHIP—This scholarship was established by John M.<br />

Robinson, who attended the <strong>University</strong> and subsequently established LPS Industries, Inc., in Newark,<br />

New Jersey. <strong>The</strong> scholarship assists promising and deserving students, with <strong>Scranton</strong>-area residents<br />

receiving first consideration.<br />

THE PATRICK AND MARIE C. ROCHE SCHOLARSHIP—Out <strong>of</strong> their affection for the<br />

<strong>University</strong> and respect for the school’s mission, <strong>Scranton</strong> natives Patrick and Marie Roche created this<br />

scholarship for eligible Lackawanna County students.<br />

THE MARY KAY/ROCHON SCHOLARSHIP—This scholarship was set up by John Rochon and<br />

the Mary Kay Foundation. It is awarded to bright female students in economic need.<br />

THE REV. JOSEPH A. ROCK, S.J., SCHOLARSHIP—Created in memory <strong>of</strong> Fr. Rock, who<br />

served the <strong>University</strong> as pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> history, academic vice president and, in 1970, acting president,<br />

this scholarship assists students in the Academic Development Program.<br />

THE REV. RICHARD W. ROUSSEAU, S.J., SCHOLARSHIP—This scholarship, established by<br />

the <strong>Scranton</strong> Jesuit Community to honor one <strong>of</strong> its own, is based on academic merit and financial need.<br />

THE ROBERT RYDER SCHOLARSHIP—Established in 1988 by John Diskin, ’67, and Coopers<br />

and Lybrand as a tribute to Mr. Robert Ryder, long-time vice president for finance/treasurer, the scholarship<br />

assists local students <strong>of</strong> the city <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong> or the borough <strong>of</strong> Dunmore, Pennsylvania.<br />

THE CHARLES V. SABATINO, SR., SCHOLARSHIP—This scholarship was established in 1990<br />

by Frank C. Sabatino, Esq., ’76, as a memorial to his father. It is based on merit and is awarded to a<br />

sophomore who is studying history.<br />

THE JOSEPHINE SARCINELLI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP—Med Science Laboratory,<br />

<strong>Scranton</strong>, established this scholarship in 1983 to honor the memory <strong>of</strong> Josephine Sarcinelli, the <strong>of</strong>fice<br />

manager <strong>of</strong> the firm for many years. <strong>The</strong> scholarship is given to an incoming freshman from<br />

Lackawanna County who is in financial need and intends to major in medical technology.<br />

THE JOHN J. SCOTT, JR., MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP—Mr. and Mrs. John J. Scott, Sr.,<br />

established this scholarship in memory <strong>of</strong> their son, a member <strong>of</strong> the Class <strong>of</strong> 1969 who died in 2000.<br />

<strong>The</strong> scholarship is for graduates <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong> Preparatory School, based on financial need, academic<br />

merit, and extracurricular activities.<br />

THE SCRANTON TIMES/SUNDAY TIMES/TRIBUNE SCHOLARSHIP—This scholarship was<br />

established by the Lynett-Haggerty families to provide support to current newspaper carriers who are<br />

attending <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong>. Employees and their family members also are eligible.<br />

THE CHARLES AND JOSEPHINE SHANDER SCHOLARSHIP—A trust established this scholarship<br />

which provides financial assistance to students from Lackawanna County’s Mid-Valley area who have<br />

at least one parent <strong>of</strong> Polish, Slovak, Russian or Lithuanian descent.<br />

THE THOMAS J. SHEVLIN, JR., AND DR. JOHN F. SHEVLIN SCHOLARSHIP—Established<br />

in 1989 through a bequest from Thomas J. Shevlin, Jr., <strong>of</strong> Carbondale, Pennsylvania, this scholarship<br />

assists deserving young men and women in premedical studies.<br />

THE MARY AND DANA SILVON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP—Joseph T. Doyle, ’69, and his<br />

wife, Judith, established this scholarship in memory <strong>of</strong> Mrs. Doyle’s sister and niece. <strong>The</strong> scholarship<br />

is available to graduates <strong>of</strong> Seton Catholic High School in Pittston, Pennsylvania.<br />

THE SPECIALTY GROUP, INC., SCHOLARSHIP—<strong>The</strong> scholarship was established in 1988 for<br />

graduates <strong>of</strong> Dunmore High School and Bishop O’Hara High School in Dunmore, Pennsylvania.<br />

THE FRANCIS J. STAHL, CLASS OF 1935, MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP—This scholarship<br />

was established through the will <strong>of</strong> Mary T. Stahl and her husband, Francis J. Stahl, a 1935 graduate <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong>. <strong>The</strong> scholarship assists local needy students.<br />

THE TOM AND SALSEY SULLIVAN SCHOLARSHIP—In 2000, Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan established<br />

this scholarship to be awarded solely on the basis <strong>of</strong> financial need, not academic merit.<br />
