LIBERAL STUDIES<br />

<strong>The</strong> Liberal Studies major is a highly individualized program <strong>of</strong>fered exclusively<br />

through Dexter Hanley College. Students may select either the Arts Track or the<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Track when pursuing this major. Applicants who have attended other accredited<br />

colleges may transfer up to 60 credits for applicable courses in which a grade <strong>of</strong> “C” or<br />

better has been earned. Students who qualify for this interdisciplinary degree program are<br />

eligible to earn as many as 30 semester hours for academically relevant experience.<br />

ARTS TRACK IN LIBERAL STUDIES<br />

<strong>The</strong> Arts Track is designed for the student interested in the liberal arts including (but not<br />

limited to) humanities, social-behavioral sciences, philosophy, theology, and the natural sciences/mathematics.<br />

<strong>The</strong> student may also maximize transfer credit by including one concentration<br />

with non-technical credit earned at an accredited institution, enen if these credits were earned<br />

in a major not <strong>of</strong>fered at <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong>. <strong>The</strong> student may select three or four areas <strong>of</strong><br />

concentration totaling 63 credits with no less than 15 credits and no more than 24 credits in each.<br />

NOTES: All Liberal Studies students must take two courses designated as writing intensive<br />

(W) and two courses designated as cultural-diversity (D).<br />

In compliance with terms set by AACSB accreditation, no more than 30 credits <strong>of</strong> the concentration<br />

may be School <strong>of</strong> Management courses.<br />

<strong>The</strong> only Physical Education courses which may be counted towards the Liberal Studies<br />

degree are those that are three or more credits in duration.<br />

No minors are granted with the Liberal Studies program.<br />

No College <strong>of</strong> Arts and Sciences concentrations are granted within the Liberal Studies degree.<br />

1 If placement testing indicates a need for MATH 005, it will be placed in the free elective areas.<br />

2 Credits must be earned in at least two areas with six credits from one area (HIST, LIT or<br />

LANG) and a maximum <strong>of</strong> three credits from the ARTS/MUSIC/THEATRE area.<br />
