Several years ago, Atlas Copco accepted the challenge of satisfying
the automotive industry’s need for electrical industrial power tools
that meet strict specifications for speed, efficiency, and secure
fastening, mainly of critical joints.
The Industrial Tools and Equipment division developed an electrical
nut-runner with the performance that customers desire. The
biggest problem was a lack of fast, lightweight, and powerful
electrical motors in the market. No electrical motor manufacturer
in the world had been able to overcome the technical barriers.
However, Atlas Copco’s innovative engineers found solutions to
the mechanical and electrical problems. The result was a new kind
of motor that is significantly different from conventional electrical
motors.
The first product with the new motor was named Tensor. It
has generated substantial sales and profits. Tensor tools are now
used by leading automotive manufacturers who have large-scale
production and make exacting demands on quality.
