4.0 <strong>Analysis</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 5-Axles or More Fleet by Body Type<br />
For each truck in <strong>the</strong> 5-axles or more fleet, <strong>the</strong>re is a body type identified with this vehicle. This<br />
body type classification is an indicator <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> body <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> vehicle or <strong>the</strong> trailer MOST OFTEN<br />
attached to it. This analysis uses Question 9 on <strong>the</strong> 1992/1997 survey, as shown in Appendix I.<br />
4.1 <strong>Analysis</strong> Structure<br />
This analysis focused on <strong>the</strong> composition <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 5-axles or more fleet in terms <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong><br />
vehicles in <strong>the</strong> different body type categories. The distribution <strong>of</strong> body types was evaluated<br />
across <strong>the</strong> regions <strong>and</strong> across vehicle groups.<br />

- multi-stop or step van (including hi-cube or cutaway)<br />
- plat<strong>for</strong>m with devices permanently mounted on bed <strong>of</strong> truck - such as high lift, lift gate,<br />
hoist, etc.<br />
- low boy (gooseneck)—plat<strong>for</strong>m with depressed center<br />
- basic plat<strong>for</strong>m—including flatbed, stake, etc.<br />
- livestock truck (including livestock drop frame)<br />
- insulated, non-refrigerated van<br />
- insulated, refrigerated van<br />
- drop frame van (including furniture van, etc.)<br />
- open top van (including fruit)<br />
- basic enclosed van (dry cargo)<br />
- beverage truck<br />
- utility truck—used in public utility operations<br />
- winch or crane truck—lifting equipment (including roll-on, roll-<strong>of</strong>f)<br />
- wrecker—<strong>for</strong> motor vehicle towing or lifting<br />
- pole, logging, pulpwood or pipe truck<br />
- automobile carrier<br />
- service truck or craftsman's vehicle - body equipped <strong>for</strong> mobile repair<br />
- yard tractor—cab <strong>and</strong> chassis only used to spot trailers<br />
- oil field truck—service equipment permanently mounted on vehicle<br />
- grain bodies (including low-side grain <strong>and</strong> hoppers, etc.)<br />
