7.5.1 Changes in Trailer Widths by 1997<br />

The adoption <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 102 inch width trailer af<strong>for</strong>ded by <strong>the</strong> 1982 STAA by different body<br />

types/truck configurations is summarized below <strong>and</strong> in Table 7.5.1-1. Figure 7.5.1-1 compares,<br />

<strong>for</strong> 1987, 1992 <strong>and</strong> 1997, <strong>the</strong> percentage <strong>of</strong> specific truck configuration/body type combinations<br />

that have trailer widths equal to or greater than 102 inches. Figure 7.5.1-2 compares <strong>the</strong> regional<br />

percent <strong>of</strong> 3S2s with trailer widths <strong>of</strong> 102 inches or more <strong>for</strong> certain body types <strong>for</strong> 1997.<br />
