Users are logging on to the system to find information that is relevant to what they are working with.
They often make good, exact searches, find what they are looking for and then log off. They seldom
browse the archives randomly.
The low number of simultaneous users and infrequent updates to the documents make the hardware
requirements for this solution quite low.
Public relations site
Users: 100 – 1000
Simultaneous users: 1 – 20
Archive: 10.000 – 100.000 files, few new files per day, rare modifications
Server (1 of 1)
Software: FotoWeb Enterprise, Index Manager Standard, Document Store
Processor: 2 x 2,5 GHz CPUs
Memory: 2 GB
Disk: SCSI RAID-5
Network: 100 M-bit LAN
This installation is available on the internet, but will not have a large user base that uses the system
regularly. Users logging in will typically look around on the site for a long time, but will typically have a
long think time between the pages requested.
The server is typically placed in a DMZ. Documents are uploaded to the server using FTP or FotoWeb
Upload functionality from FotoStation clients that prepare the material to be published.
Corporate-wide installation
Users: 50 – 1000
Simultaneous users: 1 – 50
Archive: 10.000 – 200.000 files, some new files per day, few modifications
Server 1 (of 1)
Software: FotoWeb Enterprise, Index Manager Enterprise, Document Store
Processor: 2 x 3,0 GHz CPUs
Memory: 2 GB
Disk: SCSI RAID-5, SCSI SAN
Network: 100 M-bit LAN
Other: Minor number of FotoStation clients connected for archive administration
This installation aims to make an image and/or document archive easily available to all employees in
a company. The archive is quite static; 10-200 documents are added to the archive every day, and few
modifications are made to the content of the archive.
Users will sometimes browse the archive, but mostly make precise searches for the information they are
looking for. Security issues often require complex auto-searches may put some pressure on the system,
but due to the low number of documents in the archive the impact on the performance is not significant.
A few users are likely to work very frequently with the system, while most of the user base will log in
seldom. Other software solutions may be integrated to the FotoWeb, e.g. for delivering files to intranets
or business applications.
