Verification Verify Site Configuration FotoWeb requires that the users, groups, archives and destinations be configured optimally at all times for best performance and security. This can be a tough and tedious task when the site configuration grows large and there have been many manual adjustments. The site configuration file can be prone to errors due to several reasons. • It has been converted from older versions. • It has been edited manually. • It has been updated edited with custom scripts. • It has been updated/edited with third party applications. • Etc. An erroneous site configuration can introduce security risks and incorrect functionality in FotoWeb. To assist you in maintaining a proper configuration, FotoWeb provides a tool to verify the site configuration that can be accessed from this menu. 90 FotoWare
This menu will verify the user, group, archive and destination settings and display following dialog if any errors are found. Auto fix This option allows fixing the errors automatically by • Creating missing objects such as ‘Guest’ user, ‘Everyone’ group etc. • Assigning new ids to objects with invalid and duplicate ids. • Assigning new names to objects with duplicate names. This option, however, will not correct errors of missing or invalid paths for the archives. These errors must be fixed manually. Manual fix This option allows manually fixing the errors. You can choose to create missing objects, remove incorrect objects or edit incorrect objects. This option can be handy when errors are found in some vital objects. It must be noted that by changing the ids and names of the objects will have side effects of users not being able to log in with their old (invalid) credentials, archive and group access being changed etc. So one must evaluate carefully the impact of automatically updating the ids and names of the objects. Note! Fixing the errors manually or automatically once does not guarantee that all the errors are corrected. A new error may be introduced while correcting one. Re-run the validation once you have fixed errors and saved until there are no more errors reported. Verify SMTP Connection This routine simply verifies the SMTP server defined in site’s properties. Update Configuration This tool re-writes all configuration files for the site. Use this tool if you have upgraded from a very old version of FotoWeb. Run the site verification tool after the update.
