Ma confusa la sua mente
Non distingue non più sente
Più conoscere non sa.
Scena VI
[9] Recitativo accompagnato
Sebia
Questo, no, non m’inganno è questo il loco,
Ove il Gran Sacerdote
L’attenderlo m’impose. -
L’aura, che lusinghiera
Mormora tra le piante;
Dell’onde il mormorar, l’alta, che regna
Tranquillitade in questo
Recesso tenebroso,
Promettono al mio cor qualche riposo. -
Qui mi fia reso il figlio? io più me stessa
Quasi non trovo in me. -Fosse almen desso!
Stelle, pietose, stelle,
Fate, che una Madre il Figlio suo rivegga:
Oh! quanto l’amerei!
Quasi per troppa gioja io ne morrei. -
E non potrebbe forse
Il Sommo Sacerdote
Ingannarmi così, perch’io di mente
Allontani il pensier di presentarmi
Inonorata, e sola
Del sacro altare appresso…..Ah! no,no; questa
Sarebbe troppa crudeltà:
cessate in questo giorno almeno
Dubbi funesti di squarciarmi il seno.
[10] Aria con Coro
Non tradirmi in quest’istante,
Dolce speme del mio cor.
Ah! ritorni un Figlio a madre
Al materno afflitto amor.
Scena VII
Sebia
Abbastanza! Ma s’avanza
Vieni ah vieni, parla. Il Figlio
Giojada
È tuo Figlio…..
Sebia
Eterno Dio!
A lui volo.
Aber verwirrt ist ihr Sinn,
sie unterscheidet und fühlt nicht mehr
und kann auch nichts mehr erkennen.
Szene VI
Recitativo accompagnato
Sebia
verbanne,
ungeehrt und allein
vor dem heiligen Altar zu erscheinen… Ah! Nein, nein;
das wäre zu viel an Grausamkeit:
Lasst wenigstens an diesem Tage ab,
finstere Zweifel, mir die Brust zu zerreißen.
Aria con Coro
Betrüge mich nicht in diesem Augenblick,
süße Hoffnung meines Herzens.
Ah! Möge der Sohn zur Mutter zurückkehren,
zur gequälten mütterlichen Liebe.
Szene VII
Sebia
Genug! Aber er kommt.
Komm, ach komm, sprich. Der Sohn
Jojada
Er ist dein Sohn…
Sebia
Ewiger Gott!
Ich eile zu ihm.
But confused in her mind
she no longer distinguishes and feels
and cannot any longer recognise me.
Scene VI
Accompanied Recitative
Zibiah
This, no, I am not wrong, this is the place where the High Priest
commands me
to await him. -
The breeze, that entices,
murmurs through the trees;
the murmur of the waves, the sublime
calm that reigns in this
shady arbour,
promise my heart some rest. -.
Here will my son be restored to me?
I find I am no longer myself. –
If only it were!
Stars, merciful stars,
make it that a Mother see again her Son;
Oh! How much I would love him!
I would almost die for excess of joy. -
And yet the High Priest
could not so deceive me, for from my mind
I banish thoughts of appearing,
dishonoured and alone,
by the sacred altar .... Ah! No, no,
this would be too cruel;
on this day at least let cease
the dark doubts that tear my bosom.
Aria with Chorus
Do not betray me at this moment,
sweet hope of my heart.
Ah! May a Son return to his Mother,
to a Mother's tormented love.
Scene VII
Zibiah
Enough! But he comes.
Come, ah, come, speak. My Son
Jehoiada
He is your Son.....
Zibiah
Eternal God!
I hurry to him.
