Sebia
Che vuoi?
Giojada
Qual d’Adrasto ti sembra
Il valor, la bontà?
Sebia
Degna che ognuno
La rispetti, l’ammiri
Giojada
E tu da lui che speri?
Per te felice evento?
Sebia
(Che mai dirò.)
Giojada
Tu taci? Odimi dunque,
Or questo de Leviti immenso stuolo,
Che giovar può ad entrambi,
E più giovare a te, che ti predice
O timore, o contento? In Dio confida, non paventar.
Sebia
Che parli? Io non comprendo.
Giojada
Comprenderai fra poco. È questo giorno
Decisivo per noi.
Scena X
Sebia
Gran Dio, qual mai nuovo linguaggio è questo?
Avria forse scoperto
Quant’io disposi? Ah no! Ma quel parlarmi
Di timor, di contento…Eh che son vani
I dubbi miei. Di Giojada nel petto
sta la sola virtù degno ricetto.
Chi sa? Forse in quei detti
Si cela quanto io bramo.
Forse… Ma il rito già comincia... Andiamo.
Scena XI
[16] Finale: Recitativo accompagnato
Gioas
Qual timor, qual rispetto
M’investe il cor! La maestà del tempio,
E la vicina pompa,
Sebia
Was willst du?
Jojada
Was erscheint dir der Wert
des Adrasto zu sein: die Güte?
Sebia
Sie ist würdig, dass jeder
sie ehrt, sie bewundert.
Jojada
Und was erhoffst du dir von ihm?
Ein glückliches Ereignis für dich?
Sebia
(Was soll ich sagen?)
Jojada
Du schweigst? Hör mir also zu:
diese immense Schar der Leviter nun,
die uns beiden nutzen kann,
und dir noch mehr, was kündet sie dir,
Furcht oder Zuversicht? Vertraue auf Gott, fürchte dich nicht.
Sebia
Was redest du? Ich verstehe nicht.
Jojada
Bald wirst du verstehen. Dieser Tag
ist für uns entscheidend.
Szene X
Sebia
Großer Gott, welch neue Sprache ist das?
Hat er vielleicht entdeckt
was ich befohlen habe? Ah nein! Aber er spricht mir
,von Furcht, von Freude…Ach was,
meine Zweifel sind nichtig. Jojadas Brust
ist würdiges Gefäß einzig und allein für Tugend.
Wer weiß? Vielleicht in diesen Worten
verbirgt sich, was ich begehre.
Vielleicht… Aber der Ritus fängt schon an... Gehen wir.
Szene XI
Finale: Recitativo accompagnato
Joas
Welcher Schrecken, welche Ehrfurcht
überwältigt mein Herz! Die Majestät des Tempels,
und der bevorstehende Prunk,
Zibiah
What do you want?
Jehoiada
What seems to you the courage,
the goodness of Adrasto?
Zibiah
It is fitting that everyone
respects it, admires it.
Jehoiada
And what do you expect from him?
A happy result for you?
Zibiah
(What should I say?)
Jehoiada
You are silent? Hear me then:
now this great crowd of Levites
that can helpus both,
and you the more, what does it tell you,
fear or happiness? Trust in God, be not afraid.
Zibiah
What do you say? I do not understand.
Jehoiada
You will understand soon. This day
is decisive for us.
Scene X
Zibiah
Great God, what new words are these?
Has he perhaps discovered
what I felt? Ah no! But he speaks to me
of fear, of joy ... Ah how idle are
my doubts. In Jehoiada's breast is a vessel
for virtue alone.
Who knows? Perhaps in these words
is hidden what I long for.
Perhaps ... But the rite is already starting ... Let us go.
Scene XI
Finale: Accompanied Recitative
Joash
What fear, what respect
overpowers my heart! The Temple's majesty and the accompanying
ceremony
