Giojada
Cessi ogni timor. L’eterno Nume
È gia placato, ed il pietoso ciglio
A noi rivolge. Ei sa che per inganno
L’Empia figlia d’Acabbo
V’accecò, vi tradi, nè reo si chiama
Chi pecca involontario.
Fromm will ich
zu deinen Füßen sterben.
Szene XIII
Recitativo
Jojada
Ausgelöscht sei jegliche Furcht. Der ewige Gott
ist schon beruhigt, und den mitleidvollen Blick
wendet er uns zu. Er weiß, dass trügerisch
die ruchlose Tochter des Ahab
euch geblendet hat, euch verraten hat, und es wird auch nicht
schuldig genannt wer ungewollt sündigt.
Szene XIV
Recitativo accompagnato
Adrasto
In piety will I
die at your feet.
Ah! if you feel no pity,
Chorus
Then shall his laments
reach and soften your heart.
Adrasto
Banish me, unjust fate!
Come, in haste, O death:
free me from such horror.
March
Chorus
Chorus
May his tears flow,
and in them efface
every memory
of such horror..
Choruses
To take from us,
may it please the Almighty,
the black storms
of your anger.
Scene XIII
Recitative
Jehoiada
Cease from every fear. The eternal Spirit
is now placated, and turns his merciful gaze upon us. He knows
that through deceit
the wicked daughter of Ahab
blinded you, betrayed you, and he is not called guilty who sins
involuntarily.
