Giojada
T’arresta, ascolta.
Sebia
Sol permetti, che una volta
Io lo stringa a questo sen.
Tu lo vuoi. Di Madre moti
Frenerò: ma quel momento,
Che può farmi alfin contenta,
Deh! Ti prego, affretta almen.
Giojada
Presso all’ara
Coro
All’ara
Giojada
A Dio
Grata innalza il tuo pensier.
Sebia
Ah quest’alma si confonde
Per eccesso di piacer
Giojada, e Coro
Ah quell’alma si confonde
Per eccesso di piacer.
Scena VIII
[11] Recitativo
Giojada
Dal delirar hai tu cessato ancora
Del caro figlio tuo meco parlando?
Sebia
De miei passati affanni
Dal dolce oblio chi mi richiama?
Giojada
Io sono
Il ministro di Dio, Giojada istesso.
(Ma confusa mi guarda, e Fugge irata)
Qual arcano è mai questo. Intendo, intendo
E l’inganno comprendo. Ella riseppe
Che l’empia usurpatrice
Tentò sedurmi, onde ripor sul trono
un finto re. Qual gran pensier mi costa,
quando il saprà, per custodirle il Figlio,
Prenderà dall’amor, norma e consiglio.
Jojada
Halt ein, höre!
Sebia
Erlaube nur, dass ein Mal
ich ihn an diese Brust drücke.
Du willst es. Ich will die mütterlichen Regungen
bremsen: Aber, jenen Augenblick,
der mich endlich zufrieden stellen kann,
ach! Ich bitte dich, beschleunige ihn.
Jojada
Nahe beim Altar
Chor
Zum Altar
Jojada
Zu Gott
dankbar erhebe deine Gedanken.
Sebia
Ah diese Seele wird verwirrt
von dem Übermaß an Freude.
Jojada und Chor
Ah diese Seele wird verwirrt
von dem Übermaß an Freude.
Szene VIII
Recitativo
Jojada
Jehoiada
Stop, listen!
Zibiah
Allow me once
to hold him to my bosom.
You wish it .. I will restrain a Mother's
feelings; but this moment,
that can finally make me content,
Ah! I beg you, at least make haste.
Jehoiada
By the altar
Chorus
At the altar
Jehoiada
To God
in thanks raise your thoughts.
Zibiah
Ah this soul is bewildered
by so much joy.
Jehoiada and Chorus
Ah this soul is bewildered
by so much joy..
Scene VIII
Recitative
Jehoiada
Have you ceased now from your madness
speaking with me of your dear son?
Zibiah
Who calls me back from
the sweet forgetting of my past troubles?
Jehoiada
It is I,
the servant of God, Jehoiada himself.
(But she regards me in confusion and flees in anger.)
What secret is this! I understand
and grasp the mistake. She thinks
that the wicked usurper
has tried to seduce me into putting on the throne
a false king. When she understands the great consideration it was
to look after her Son,
she will be ruled and counselled by love.
