Distribution in <strong>Sinaloa</strong>.—Southern part <strong>of</strong> state, intergrading with<br />

C. c. mazatlanensis in an area a few kilometers south <strong>of</strong> Mazatlan.<br />

Cnemidophorus costatus mazatlanensis Zweifel<br />

Cnemidophorus sacfo mazatlanensis Zweifel, Bull. Amer. Mus. Nat. Hist,,<br />

117:89, April 27, 1959 (type locality, two miles north <strong>of</strong> Coyoutan,<br />

<strong>Sinaloa</strong>).<br />

Remarks.—This subspecies is discussed by Zweifel (1959a:89-93),<br />

Thirty specimens have 34-50 (38.5) femoral pores (excluding<br />

KU 29749); 190-240 (216.5) granules from occiput to rump {excluding<br />

KU 29736); 85-117 (98.5) granules around the body<br />

(GAB) at ventral 15 from axilla; 8-17 (13.3) granules between<br />

paravertebral stripes (PV) (excluding KU 78794); <strong>and</strong> are 43-103<br />

(71.2) mm. in snout-vent length. <strong>The</strong> PV/GAB ratio is 0.90-0.179<br />

(0.135) for 29 specimens. Seven lizards (snout-vent lengths <strong>of</strong><br />

59-91 ram.) have pattern I {Zweifel, 1959a:66-67), 14 (43-82 mm.)<br />

have pattern II, seven (58-91 mm.) have pattern III, one (90 mm.)<br />

has pattern TV, <strong>and</strong> one (89 mm.) has pattern V. <strong>The</strong> circumorbital<br />

scales contact the frontal in three specimens <strong>and</strong> do not reach the<br />

frontal in 27.<br />

Five specimens (KU 75608-12) from five kilometers southwest <strong>of</strong><br />

El Palmito, Durango (in <strong>Sinaloa</strong>) are unquestionably <strong>of</strong> pattern I;<br />

the belly is without black markings in three <strong>and</strong> with moderate<br />

black markings like huico <strong>and</strong> mazatlanensis in two; one has a
