with pale green anterior edge, broken middorsally; middorsal scales<br />

pale brownish green, grading into pale green laterally <strong>and</strong> into<br />

blue <strong>of</strong> belly; dorsal <strong>and</strong> lateral scales <strong>of</strong> tail pale blue with brown<br />

edges; legs brown dorsally; mental <strong>and</strong> anterior gulars pale blue;<br />

throat royal blue with invasions <strong>of</strong> black from sides <strong>of</strong> lower jaw;<br />

chest black; two royal blue lateral patches, joined by black anteriorly,<br />

separated posteriorly by dirty white; ventral surface <strong>of</strong> legs<br />

dirty white, yellowish white along femoral pores <strong>and</strong> outer edges <strong>of</strong><br />

vent.<br />

Specimens have been found on the sides <strong>of</strong> wooden buildings <strong>and</strong><br />

on logs during June, July, <strong>and</strong> August in pine-oak forest above<br />

1000 meters elevation.<br />

Distribution in <strong>Sinaloa</strong>.—Known only from the mountains {above<br />

1000 meters) in the vicinity <strong>of</strong> Santa Lucia <strong>and</strong> El Palmito<br />

[Durango]. See Fig. 47.<br />

Sceloporus clarkii boulengeri Stejneger<br />

(type locality, Presidio, about 50 miles [south] from Mazatlan, <strong>Sinaloa</strong>).<br />

Remarks.—Sceloporus clarkii boulengeri has been recognized by<br />

most authors despite some confusion with other lizards (Burt,<br />

1935:172; Taylor, 1938:520) <strong>and</strong> some disagreement about the<br />

taxonomic value <strong>of</strong> certain characters (Bogert <strong>and</strong> Oliver, 1945:<br />

347). Intergradation between boulengeri <strong>and</strong> clarkii occurs near<br />

Alamos (Bogert <strong>and</strong> Oliver, 1945:348) <strong>and</strong> Navojoa (Langebartel<br />

<strong>and</strong> Smith, 1954:130), Sonora.<br />

Little sexual dimorphism is evident in the following characters<br />

<strong>of</strong> 140 specimens: snout-vent length, 33-126 (83.2); dorsal scales<br />

28-37 (32.7) (excluding KU 29586, 37631, 63683); femoral pores<br />

(total), 13-27 (18.6) (excluding KU 29586, 77823, 80728). <strong>The</strong>re<br />

are two rows <strong>of</strong> lorilabials below the suboculars in 126, one row in<br />

six, one right <strong>and</strong> two left in three, <strong>and</strong> two right <strong>and</strong> one left in
