two specimens reported as T. latifascia by Fouquette <strong>and</strong> Rossman<br />

(1963:199), are tentatively assigned to T. tau, pending completion<br />

<strong>of</strong> a study <strong>of</strong> the tau group <strong>of</strong> Trimorphodon by Norman J. Scott<br />

<strong>and</strong> the second author. All specimens were collected on the highway<br />

at night.<br />

Distribution in <strong>Sinaloa</strong>.—Foothills in north. See Fig. 87.<br />

Tropidodipsas annulifera Boulenger<br />

Tropidodipsas annulifera Boulenger, Catalogue <strong>of</strong> the Snakes in the British<br />

Museum (Natural History), 2:297, 1894 (based on a specimen <strong>of</strong> unknown<br />

provenance).<br />

Remarks.—One female <strong>and</strong> two males have smooth dorsal scales<br />

in 15 rows without apical pits; 146, 149, 152 ventral s; 42, 44, 41 subcaudals;<br />

6-6 supralabials; 7-7, 7-7, 6-7 infralabials; 1-1, 0-0, 0-0<br />

preoculars; 2-2 postoculars; 1 + 2/1 + 2 temporals; anal entire (only<br />

KU 75621); nasal divided; loreal <strong>and</strong> supralabials 3 <strong>and</strong> 4 enter the<br />

eye; mental separated from chin shields; pupil vertically eliptjcal.<br />

<strong>The</strong> dorsal coloration is black with eight <strong>and</strong> 12 lateral white spots<br />

or rings (about two scales wide) anterior to the vent.<br />

Most specimens were collected at night in July, during <strong>and</strong> immediately<br />

after a hard rain, probably the first hard rain <strong>of</strong> the season.<br />

One specimen (KU 75621) was found above ground in daylight<br />

on July 15,1963.<br />

Greer (1965b:237) reported T. malacodryas from the lowl<strong>and</strong>s<br />

north <strong>of</strong> Culiacan. Scott (1967:281) referred T. malacodryas Shannon<br />

<strong>and</strong> Humphrey <strong>and</strong> four <strong>of</strong> the specimens reported as T. occidentalis<br />

(UCLA 14640-43) by Campbell <strong>and</strong> Simmons (1962:198)<br />

to T. annulifera.<br />

Distribution in <strong>Sinaloa</strong>.—Occurs below 1200 meters in the lowl<strong>and</strong><br />

thorn woodl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> tropical deciduous forest in the southern<br />

two-thirds <strong>of</strong> the state. See Fig. 87.<br />
