sitting beneath street lights or in patios <strong>of</strong> cafes <strong>and</strong> houses, eating<br />

the myriad <strong>of</strong> insects attracted to the lights. Males were heard<br />

calling along the Rio Piaxtla at La Cruz on July 1 after a heavy rain<br />

had flooded the river. On August 16, several hundred individuals<br />

were found dead on the road about 28 miles north Mazatlan. Evidently<br />

a large flooded field to the east <strong>of</strong> the road had served as a<br />

breeding pond.<br />

Distribution in <strong>Sinaloa</strong>.—Bufo marinus occurs throughout the<br />

lowl<strong>and</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sinaloa</strong> up to elevations <strong>of</strong> about 500 meters. See<br />
