Printing special pages Special pages within the memory of the printer can help you to diagnose and learn about problems with your printer. ● Configuration page The configuration page lists many of the current settings and properties of the printer. For information about how to print the configuration page, see Using printer information pages. If you have an HP Jetdirect print server installed, a second page prints that lists all of the HP Jetdirect information. ● Font list You can print a font list using the control panel (see Using printer information pages) or, for Macintosh computers, the HP Printer Utility (see Using the HP Printer Utility for Macintosh). ● Supplies status page Use the supplies status page to obtain information about the print cartridge that is installed in the printer, the amount of life that remains in the print cartridge, and the number of pages and jobs that have been processed (see Using printer information pages). ● Show Me How pages Use the SHOW ME HOW control-panel menu to print pages that contain information about jams, loading trays, supported media types and sizes, and more help. Common causes of jams The printer is jammed. 1 Cause The media does not meet specifications. A component is installed incorrectly. You are using media that has already passed through a printer or copier. An input tray is loaded incorrectly. The media is skewed. The media is binding or sticking together. Solution Use only media that meets HP specifications. See Paper specifications. Verify that all print cartridges, the transfer unit, and the fuser are correctly installed. Do not use media that has been previously printed on or copied. Remove any excess media from the input tray. Make sure that the stack is below the maximum stack height mark in the tray. See Configuring trays. The input-tray guides are not adjusted correctly. Adjust them so they hold the stack firmly in place without bending it. Remove the media, flex it, rotate it 180°, or flip it over. Reload the media into the input tray. NOTE Do not fan paper. Fanning can create static electricity, which can cause paper to stick together. The media is removed before it settles into the output bin. During two-sided printing, you removed the paper before the second side of the document was printed. The media is in poor condition. The internal rollers from tray 2 or tray 3 are not picking up the media. The media has rough or jagged edges. The media is perforated or embossed. Printer supply items have reached the end of their useful life. Paper was not stored correctly. Reset the printer. Wait until the page completely settles in the output bin before removing it. Reset the printer and print the document again. Wait until the page completely settles in the output bin before removing it. Replace the media. Remove the top sheet of media. If the media is heavier than 163 g/m 2 (43 lb), it might not be picked from the tray. Replace the media. Perforated or embossed media does not separate easily. Feed single sheets from tray 1. Check the printer control panel for messages prompting you to replace supplies, or print a supplies status page to verify the remaining life of the supplies. See Using printer information pages. Replace the paper in the trays. Paper should be stored in the original packaging in a controlled environment. 1 If the printer still continues to jam, contact HP Customer Support or your authorized HP service provider.
