The D➯RECT Program has been<br />
operating <strong>for</strong> 15 years with a<br />
mandate to expedite the scale-up of<br />
innovative waste reduction and<br />
recycling technologies that also save<br />
energy. Administered by<br />
Environment Canada and jointly<br />
funded with Natural Resources<br />
Canada, the program pays a<br />
maximum of 50 percent of project<br />
costs, up to $200,000 annually.<br />

The Environmental Innovation<br />
Program provides financial<br />
assistance <strong>for</strong> the development of<br />
new environmental products and<br />
services. Canadian industries, native<br />
groups, universities, nongovernment<br />
organizations, and<br />
individuals with innovative research<br />
and development proposals in the<br />
environmental sciences area may<br />
apply. Proposals may be submitted<br />
at anytime to Environment Canada.<br />
Projects must be unique, fit within<br />
the Green Plan, be sponsored by at<br />
least one other federal government<br />
department or agency, and receive<br />
funding from additional sources,<br />
preferably private. Funding ranges<br />
from $5,000 to $200,000 per project.<br />
