prescribed and standardised. The following procedure should be adopted for effecting such<br />

changes -<br />

8.2.1 Those which are connected with safety requirements, a comprehensive proposal<br />

indicating the actual experience <strong>of</strong> the railways, benefits that are likely to accrue due to proposed<br />

changes and the particular reasons for suggesting the change should be sent to RDSO with the<br />

approval <strong>of</strong> the Chief <strong>Electrical</strong> Engineer. Such modifications to the maintenance requirements<br />

should only be implemented after RDSO have studied the proposal <strong>of</strong> the railway and approved<br />

the same.<br />

8.2.2 Proposals other than item 8.2.1. A similar procedure must be adopted excepting that<br />

the Chief <strong>Electrical</strong> Engineer may authorize provisionally the introduction <strong>of</strong> the change subject to<br />

post facto approval from RDSO, in case RDSO convey an opinion to the contrary, the original<br />

schedule should be brought back. The railways can, however, continue to pursue the matter with<br />

RDSO and if the later agree finally, adopt the change to the extent agreed upon.<br />

8.3 INSPECTION SCHEDULES<br />

The maintenance and overhaul schedules to be followed for AC electric locos are as<br />

1. Trip inspection, TI Passenger loco Outstation shed <strong>of</strong> homing<br />

every 3000 km.<br />

every loco shed as convenient<br />

Freight loco-<br />

i) TAO Motor-15 days after last attention.<br />

ii) HITACHI Motor-22 days after last attention<br />

2. Monthly inspection (IA) Homing or nominated<br />

40 days electric loco shed.<br />

3. Two monthly inspection (IB) Homing electric loco shed<br />

40 days<br />

4. Four monthly inspection (IC) Homing electric loco shed<br />

40 days<br />

5. Annual overhaul (AOH) Homing electric loco shed<br />

AOH + 15 days<br />

6 Intermediate overhaul (IOH) Homing electric loco shed<br />

300,000 km after POH or first or nominated workshop.<br />

Commissioning or 3 years whichever<br />

is earlier + 1 month<br />

*7 Periodical overhaul (POH) Workshop nominated for<br />

60,000 km after commissioning the purpose<br />

or last POH or 6 years whichever<br />

is earlier + 3 month.<br />

* The periodicity <strong>of</strong> IOH and POH shall be determined by each railway and for<br />

each type <strong>of</strong> locomotives. With the improved technical inputs the efforts should
