<strong>Historic</strong> Significance: This building is significant because it is one <strong>of</strong><br />

42 Craftsman buildings in the survey area which demonstrates <strong>Juneau</strong>'s<br />

vernacular interpretation <strong>of</strong> national styles <strong>and</strong> because it<br />

demonstrates patterns <strong>of</strong> community development in <strong>Juneau</strong>, Alaska. Dr.<br />

Earl Bevis owned the home in 1916•.Heiwas·a physician <strong>and</strong> surgeon <strong>and</strong><br />

was Assistant Commissioner <strong>of</strong> Health for the First Division (Alaska).<br />

In 1917, Jay Bell purchased the property. He was a clerk for the<br />

District Court.<br />
