General Description: Retains integrity, little evidence <strong>of</strong> change,<br />

contributing element t.o the architectural <strong>and</strong> his tior-Lc unity <strong>of</strong> the<br />

neighborhood, ·fair condition<br />

<strong>Historic</strong> Significance: This building is significant because it is one <strong>of</strong><br />

six Prairie-influenced buildings in the survey area which demonstrates<br />

<strong>Juneau</strong>'s vernacular interpretation <strong>of</strong> national styles, because <strong>of</strong> it<br />

association with the u.s. Government which housed a weather station<br />

there, <strong>and</strong> because it. demonstrates patterns <strong>of</strong> community development<br />

in <strong>Juneau</strong>, Ala.ska. The weather bureau· station housed in this building<br />

was manned by meteorologist Ral.ph C.Mize who, along with his family,<br />

lived there as well. The Mize's lived in the house in the 1920's <strong>and</strong><br />

1930's. An earlier resident was Frances McKenna.<br />
