<strong>Historic</strong> .Significance: This building is significant because it is one <strong>of</strong><br />

42 Craftsman buildings in the survey area which demonstrate <strong>Juneau</strong>'s<br />

vernacular interpretation <strong>of</strong> national styles <strong>and</strong> because it<br />

demonstrates patterns <strong>of</strong> community development in <strong>Juneau</strong>, Alaska. The<br />

owner <strong>of</strong> the house, James V. Davis,was·amarine engineer <strong>and</strong> settled<br />

in Alaska in 1906. He ran cannery·tenders for the canneries at Kasaan<br />

<strong>and</strong> Tee Harbor. He was owner <strong>and</strong> operator <strong>of</strong> the mail boat "Estebeth"<br />

<strong>and</strong> later organized the Marine Airways which eventually became Alaska<br />

Coastal Airlines, <strong>and</strong> sUbsequently merged· with Alaska Airlines.<br />
