vernacular interpretation <strong>of</strong> national styles, because •• <strong>of</strong> its<br />

association with Territorial government employees, James <strong>and</strong> Marie<br />

Drake, <strong>and</strong> because it .demonstrates •. patterns •. <strong>of</strong> •• community development<br />

in <strong>Juneau</strong>, Alaska. The Drakes came to·Alaska in 1919 <strong>and</strong> Mr. Drake<br />

was employed by the Bureau <strong>of</strong> Public Roads. Marie Drake was Assistant<br />

Commissioner <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Education.<br />
