In addition, three years of teaching experience at the associate professor rank must be acquired<br />
at <strong>Fairmont</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> prior to promotion.<br />
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LEVEL<br />
To apply for promotion to the rank of Associate Professor/Senior Level, a faculty member must<br />
meet the following minimum requirements:<br />
1) fourteen years of combined college teaching and/or equivalent professional experience if<br />
on the Technical Track;<br />
AND<br />
2) eight years of teaching experience as an Associate Professor at <strong>Fairmont</strong> <strong>State</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong>.<br />
For the Associate Professor/Senior Level, the Education requirements and the Criteria for<br />
Evaluation are identical to those currently in effect for the Associate Professor rank described<br />
in the <strong>Fairmont</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Faculty</strong> <strong>Handbook</strong>.<br />
Moreover, since no faculty member can ever be promoted to both Senior Levels, Associate<br />
Professors who are or will be eligible for promotion to Professor may NOT apply for the<br />
Associate Professor/Senior Level.<br />
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR:<br />
To be eligible to apply for the rank of associate professor, a faculty member must meet the<br />
following minimum requirements:<br />
EDUCATION:<br />
1) hold an earned doctorate or the terminal degree appropriate to the teaching field (See<br />
Appendix A for additional certifications acceptable in lieu of a terminal degree);<br />
OR<br />
2) have formally completed all requirements for the doctorate except the dissertation;<br />
OR<br />
3) hold an advanced degree, a national certification and have three years of non-teaching<br />
industrial/professional experience after certification. The appropriate national certification<br />
and experience will be identified at the College/School level and will be subject to approval<br />
by the <strong>Faculty</strong> Senate; 4<br />
OR<br />
4) have achieved professional and scholarly distinction (e.g., published extensively in<br />
nationally recognized professional journals, received national professional awards or<br />
honors, delivered professional papers at national conferences, served as consultant to<br />
nationally recognized groups or agencies). Primary consideration will be given to that<br />
professional and scholarly achievement since the attainment of the current rank.<br />
