Vision Benefit Plan Discounts<br />
Discounts are offered to full time faculty for eye exams, glasses, sunglasses and contact lenses by a<br />
group of Board Certified optometrists and ophthalmologists at Regional Eye Associates in <strong>Fairmont</strong>,<br />
Morgantown, and Bridgeport.<br />
REACH Employee Assistance Program, provided by the institution, offers a confidential and<br />
professional counseling service to help you and your family resolve job-related, personal and family<br />
problems. The program is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.<br />

SMART 529 Plan is a tax-advantaged college savings program sponsored by the <strong>State</strong> of West<br />
Virginia Treasurer’s Office. Assets can accumulate tax deferred. Withdrawals for “qualified higher<br />

RETIREE BENEFITS<br />
Health Continuation for Retired <strong>Faculty</strong><br />
<strong>Faculty</strong> who retiree under the WV <strong>State</strong> Teachers Plan, TIAA-CREF, or Great-West Retirement<br />
Services must meet the minimum <strong>State</strong> Retirement System eligibility requirements to continue the<br />
PEIA health and PEIA life insurance as a retiree.<br />
Age 60 and 5 or more years of WV state service, or<br />
Age 55 and 30 or more years of WV state service, or<br />
Any age and 35 years of WV state service<br />
Totally disabled for further service and with 10 years WV <strong>State</strong> service<br />
Continuation of Health and life Insurance Coverage at Retirement for 9, 10, and 11 Month<br />
<strong>Faculty</strong> Appointments except faculty hired July 1, 2009 or after are not eligible for the credit<br />
(Senate Bill 492).<br />
Service converts to premium credit as follows with no partial credit:<br />
3 1/3 years of teaching service = 1 year of single coverage<br />
5 years of teaching service = 1 year of family coverage<br />
Continuation of Health and Life Insurance Coverage at Retirement for Twelve (12) Month<br />
<strong>Faculty</strong> Appointments:<br />
<strong>Faculty</strong> who retiree and meet the eligibility guidelines may use their sick and or annual leave to pay<br />
for all or a portion of the health and basic life premiums depending on the effective date of coverage<br />
in the PEIA eligibility system. Employees in the <strong>State</strong> Retirement System can use their accrued leave<br />
to increase retirement benefits, rather than for insurance credit.<br />
Before July 1, 1988<br />
If you have been covered by health or life insurance plans offered through PEIA continuously, and<br />
before July 1, 1988, 100% of the premium in the Shopper’s Guide chart will be paid for you.<br />
