The number of syllables is twelve in both cases. This is the line missing in the first printing; line 565 thus ended with a full stop. Since Scherer did not see a reprinted version of theses pages, ‘sous toutes réserves’ he suggests as a replacement line: ‘A pu percer son sein tout en faisant retraite’ (p. 1300). There would not seem to be any strong reason to use lyonne here rather than lion except that this requires the adjective to be feminine, therefore supplying an extra syllable to the line. 104
