Summary of General Comments Officer Comments Reference for
Items Actioned
Section 6. Vision Statement
Section 6 on page 31, The vision statement does not say how
much of the LNA’s (quantity, size or percentage of an original
representation) will be protected. Without some indication, it
could only protect a very small portion.
Section 6 on page 31, The vision statement refers to
‘biodiversity values’ rather than ‘biodiversity’ which implies the
protection of the communities’ values in regard to biodiversity
and is therefore susceptible to misinterpretation. While we
appreciate that the Vision Statement was decided by members of
a Steering Group, it is recommended that the word ‘values’ not
be used in this context.
Comment noted. There are more specific details provided
in regard to the protection of LNAs in Sections 8 and 9.
Comment noted. The vision statement was developed
through the Steering Group with input from
representatives of the Community, Government Agencies,
Councillors and Shire Staff and therefore it has not been
amended.
Section 8. Biodiversity Feature Targets
Box 3 on page 34, What is the size definition of “significant
natural area remaining”?
Comment noted. There is no specific size definition for a
“significant natural area remaining” as there is no lower
limit on size for retention and protection of natural areas
containing TECs and each natural area should be assessed
on a case by case basis.
8.1.2 on page 34, These species should be protected …. “should
read” shall (or will ) be protected… “to ensure that they are
protected.
Document amended to reflect comment. See page 34.
