Admission<br />
based), or 100 (Internet-based) on the Test of English<br />
as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or a 7.0 overall score<br />
on the International English Language Testing System<br />
(IELTS). (The <strong>University</strong>’s TOEFL code is 2864.)<br />
Premedical Program: Year 1<br />
a. Passes in GCSE Ordinary Levels (or the equivalent) are<br />
required in mathematics, science, biology, chemistry,<br />
English, and at least one other subject.<br />
OR<br />
b. High school diploma (or the equivalent) with a strong<br />
GPA in science and strong SAT scores.<br />
Premedical Program: Year 2<br />
a. A Matriculation Examination, such as the South African<br />
or Australian Examination, or its equivalent, with strong<br />
science grades.<br />
OR<br />
b. Minimum of 30 university/college undergraduate level<br />
credits that include some science foundation courses.*<br />
Premedical Program: Year 3<br />
a. International Baccalaureate Diploma or a minimum of three<br />
GCE Advanced Level Examinations (or the equivalent) with<br />
strong science grades.<br />
OR<br />
b. Minimum of 60 university/college undergraduate level<br />
credits that include all science foundation courses.*<br />
*The science foundation courses are the following requisite undergraduatelevel<br />
courses for admission to the medical program: Biology I and II with lab,<br />
Organic Chemistry I and II with lab,Inorganic Chemistry I and II (General or<br />
Physical) with lab, at least one semester Physics with lab, one semester of<br />
Math (Calculus, Computer Science, or <strong>St</strong>atistics), and one semester of English.<br />
Promotion into the Doctor of<br />
Medicine Program<br />
Transitioning from the premedical program into the<br />
medical program at <strong>St</strong>. George’s <strong>University</strong> is dependent<br />
on successful completion of the final year of the<br />
premedical program. <strong>St</strong>udents must achieve a B average<br />
to maintain satisfactory academic progress. To be eligible<br />
for promotion to the Doctor of Medicine program,<br />
students must successfully complete the final premedical<br />
year with a minimum 3.2 GPA (B+), a minimum 2.75 science<br />
GPA, pass the Premedical Science Comprehensive<br />
Examination (PMSCE), and have a favorable review.<br />
Additionally, any US citizen or US permanent resident is<br />
required to take the MCAT examination and have the<br />
scores reported to the school.<br />
Entrance Requirements for the<br />
Doctor of Medicine Program<br />
For North American Applicants<br />
1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is<br />
required. Candidates accepted during the final year of<br />
undergraduate study are accepted with the assumption<br />
that their undergraduate degree will be completed before<br />
matriculation into the School of Medicine; candidates’<br />
acceptance will be withdrawn if the degree is not obtained.<br />
2. The following specific undergraduate coursework (or its<br />
equivalent) is required as part of the premedical program<br />
requirements for admission: one year General Biology or<br />
Zoology with lab; one year Inorganic Chemistry (General<br />
or Physical) with lab; one year Organic Chemistry with<br />
lab; one semester Physics with lab; one semester Math<br />
(Calculus, Computer Science, or <strong>St</strong>atistics); and one<br />
semester of English. The Committee on Admission<br />
recommends courses in Biochemistry, Microbiology,<br />
and Physiology as preparation for medical school, and<br />
in today’s increasingly technical environment, a basic<br />
knowledge in the use of a computer is imperative.<br />
3. Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). All North<br />
American applicants must submit MCAT scores. (The<br />
<strong>University</strong>’s MCAT code is 21303.) Inquiries concerning<br />
