Makerere <strong>University</strong><br />

<strong>St</strong>. George’s <strong>University</strong>, Grenada, and Makerere <strong>University</strong>,<br />

Uganda, have agreed to work towards mutual collaboration<br />

in the areas of research, shared curricula, faculty, and<br />

student exchange in various degree programs, and<br />

collaboration on graduate and postgraduate training. Each<br />

institution will recognize the other’s credit in compatible<br />

courses and will jointly review relevant curricula. The two<br />

institutions encourage collaborative research and graduate<br />

students’ research supervision, as well as facilitate, when<br />

possible, accommodations for academic exchange visits.<br />

Monmouth <strong>University</strong><br />

Combined BS/MD Degree<br />

Monmouth <strong>University</strong> in West Long Branch, New Jersey,<br />

has joined with <strong>St</strong>. George’s <strong>University</strong> to offer students an<br />

opportunity to obtain a BS/MD degree. Qualified students<br />

are able to pursue a career in medicine at <strong>St</strong>. George’s<br />

<strong>University</strong> (SGU) following successful completion of the<br />

premedical program at Monmouth <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Applicants admitted to this combined degree program<br />

are granted a pathway from their undergraduate degree<br />

in biology or health sciences to a Doctor of Medicine<br />

program. <strong>St</strong>udents admitted to the pathway program<br />

complete their undergraduate degree in Biology or Health<br />

Sciences at Monmouth <strong>University</strong> in four years, and upon<br />

meeting established admission criteria progress into the<br />

four year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program at SGU.<br />

that offers a comprehensive array of undergraduate and<br />

graduate degree programs. The <strong>University</strong> provides<br />

students with a highly personalized education that<br />

builds the knowledge and confidence of tomorrow’s<br />

Monmouth <strong>University</strong>’s magnificent and historic campus<br />

is approximately one hour from both New York City and<br />

Philadelphia and is within walking distance of the beaches<br />

The New Jersey Program<br />

Combined BS/MD Degree<br />

The New Jersey Program is a highly selective program<br />

developed by <strong>St</strong>. George’s <strong>University</strong> School of Medicine,<br />

in cooperation with New Jersey Institute of Technology<br />

(NJIT)/Albert Dorman Honors College and <strong>St</strong>. Michael’s<br />

Medical Center. NJIT is a public research university located<br />

in Newark, New Jersey, providing instruction, research, and<br />

public service in several science and engineering fields. <strong>St</strong>.<br />

Michael’s Medical Center is an affiliated hospital at which<br />

SGUSOM students complete clinical rotations.<br />

After meeting stringent admission criteria, students follow<br />

the Honors Curriculum in Biology or Engineering Science<br />

at NJIT’s Albert Dorman Honors College and fulfill the<br />

requirements of the college. <strong>St</strong>udents proceed to Grenada<br />

and enter the first year of the Doctor of Medicine program at<br />

<strong>St</strong>. George’s <strong>University</strong> after three successful years at NJIT.<br />

Successful completion of the first year of medical study at<br />

<strong>St</strong>. George’s <strong>University</strong> School of Medicine will fulfill the<br />

requirements for the Bachelor of Arts in biology or the<br />

Bachelor of Science in engineering science at NJIT’s Albert<br />

Dorman Honors College. After the second year of the Doctor<br />

of Medicine degree program at SGU, students will enter the<br />

clinical phase of the Doctor of Medicine degree program<br />

at SGU’s affiliated hospital, <strong>St</strong>. Michael’s Medical Center<br />

in Newark. Successful completion of the medical program<br />

leads to the conferral of the Doctor of Medicine degree.<br />
