others. An applicant/medical student must also be able to<br />
tolerate taxing workloads, function effectively under stress,<br />
adapt to changing environment, display flexibility, and<br />
learn to function in the face of uncertainties inherent in the<br />
clinical problems of many patients. Compassion, integrity,<br />
concern for others, commitment, and motivation are<br />
personal qualities which each applicant/medical student<br />
should possess.<br />
A student’s acceptance into the School of Medicine is<br />
granted upon the presumption by the Committee on<br />
Admission that: (1) All courses currently being taken by<br />
the applicant will be completed prior to registration.<br />
(2) All statements made by the applicant during the<br />
admission process, whether oral, written, or in submission<br />
of academic documentation, are true and correct. If<br />
it is subsequently discovered that false or inaccurate<br />
information was submitted, the <strong>University</strong> may nullify a<br />
candidate’s acceptance or, if the student is registered,<br />
dismiss the student. <br />
Application Checklist<br />
All documents must be in English or have a certified<br />
translation attached, and must be originals or certified<br />
copies.<br />
1. Application Fee (The application will not be processed<br />
without the fee. Payment can be made via credit card<br />
at time of online application submission; otherwise via<br />
check drawn on a US bank):<br />
a. $75.00 US for Doctor of Medicine, Dual Degree, and<br />
Premedical Programs.<br />
b. $50.00 for Graduate <strong>St</strong>udies Program.*<br />
*The application fee may be waived for applicants outside of the United<br />
<strong>St</strong>ates and Canada.<br />
2. Complete application for admission (Prospective<br />
students can apply online or download a PDF from the<br />
website www.sgu.edu).<br />
3. Passport-sized photograph, with your name and date of<br />
birth printed on the back (if not scanned).<br />

Checklist for Items to be Sent<br />
The following items should be sent directly from the<br />
appropriate offices:<br />
1. Official degree-bearing transcripts (undergraduate and<br />
graduate, if applicable)<br />
2. Official transcripts or academic certificates (from all other<br />
institutions attended)<br />
3. Official standardized test scores (if you are a North<br />
American applicant)<br />
4. Two letters of recommendation, preferably from science<br />
professors or premedical committee evaluation<br />
5. Official TOEFL or IELTS scores (if English is not your<br />
principal language). All application material should be<br />

Advanced <strong>St</strong>anding Applications<br />
Applications for advanced standing are considered rarely,<br />
and only for the beginning of the second year of the<br />
medical program. The Committee on Admission does<br />
not seek or encourage transfer applications. Candidates<br />
seeking advanced standing should write to the chairman of<br />
the Committee on Admission to determine whether their<br />
applications will be considered. Letters should include the<br />
citizenship of the candidate, the prior medical school with<br />
years attended, a brief summary of academic achievement,<br />
and the reason for leaving. Should the Committee on<br />
Admission consider the application, candidates will be<br />
notified of the procedures for application.<br />
