theatres, was back in town for a brief visit<br />

from Los Angeles, where he is now a television<br />

producer.<br />

Ruth Ackerman, Detroit<br />

Exhibitor's Wife, Dies<br />

DETROIT—Mrs. Ruth Ackerman, who had<br />

been ill about a year and a half, died last<br />

week (15). She was married in 1905 to<br />

Samuel Ackerman, one of Detroit's two oldest<br />

active exhibitors, who opened the Ea?t Side<br />

Theatre in 1911. Ackerman is still the owner<br />

and operator of this house, which was rebuilt<br />

a number of years ago, marking over 41 years<br />

of continuous operation of one theatre.<br />

Ackerman has also operated the Dreamland,<br />

Arcade, and Alvin theatres at various periods.<br />

Mrs. Ackerman was active in many circles.<br />

She is survived by her hu.sband and three<br />

children, including Alfred, who is a partner<br />

with his father in the business.<br />

Bert Tighe Elected<br />

DETROIT—Bert Tighe of Republic has<br />

been re-elected president of the Detroit<br />
