Domestic Operations<br />
Human Resource<br />
Attraction and Retention : The ‘<strong>Tata</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> Scholars Scheme’<br />
was launched at 10 Engineering campuses to attract talent in<br />
the <strong>Steel</strong>/Manufacturing sector.<br />
Leadership Development: The ‘Young Leadership<br />
development process’ was launched to hone the talent of<br />
hi-potential young managers.<br />
Management Development : The Management Development<br />
Centre focused on building functional capabilities through<br />
the Gurukul series of programmes with an aim to prepare<br />
global mindsets.<br />
To leverage the capability of learning partners, several<br />
joint programmes like Nat<strong>Steel</strong> Asia in IR, Hays for HR Gurukul,<br />
were run.<br />
Key initiatives in Technical Education<br />
• A skill training facility for contractors’ employees engaged at<br />
the Jamshedpur Works.<br />
• Eight more E-learning centres.<br />
• Copyright for 19 E-learning courses from the Ministry of<br />
Human Resources.<br />
• 979 illiterate employees trained in basic literacy (Hindi)<br />
• MoU with Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad for mining<br />
operation and engineering courses.<br />
• Surplus employees re-deployed.<br />
• Competency based potential assessment launched.<br />
Corporate Sustainability<br />
• <strong>Tata</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> hosted the Lifeline Express Camp in the<br />
states of Chhattisgarh and Orissa reaching out to<br />
over one lakh people with diagnostic, surgical and<br />
post-surgery consultation. With these camps, the<br />
company has hosted this unique hospital on rails twelve<br />
times in all.<br />
• The Mother Teresa Award for Corporate Citizen (2005)<br />
was conferred on <strong>Tata</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> for its deep involvement in<br />
programmes of social responsibility beyond the call of<br />
duty.<br />
• The Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) has<br />
selected eighteen sportspersons to undergo training<br />
in boxing, athletics and archery at the <strong>Tata</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> sports<br />
facilities in Jamshedpur.<br />
• <strong>Tata</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> has granted scholarships under its Jyoti<br />
Fellowship programme of Tribal Cultural Society to two<br />
meritorious tribal students to pursue higher education<br />
at IIT Chennai and IIT Roorkee.<br />
• <strong>Tata</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> has signed an MOU with NEDO (New Energy<br />
& Industrial Technology Development Organisation),<br />
Japan to use Dry Quenching Technology for cooling<br />
coke that will help conserve both heat energy and fresh<br />
water and bring down air and water pollution associated<br />
with the conventional wet quenching process during<br />
manufacture of Metallurgical Coke.
