Sanyo introduced an outdoor weatherproof 42” panel, the CE42LM4WPN, meeting
the international IP-56 rating (Ingress Protection, or IP, ratings were established by
the European Committee for Electro Technical Standardization (CENELEC, described
IEC/EN 60529) and specify the environmental protection an enclosure provides.
According to Sanyo “The first number in the IP rating specifies the protection against
solid objects where larger numbers indicate protection against increasing smaller
things. The Sanyo CE42’s first number of five indicates protection against dust,
meaning no harmful deposits will form inside the monitor. The second IP number
specifies the protection against liquids. The Sanyo CE42’s second rating number of 6
indicates protection against low pressure jets of water so it would be ideal to be used
onboard ships.”
The frame and cabinet were
constructed from marine grade
anodized aluminum and designed
with a “no holes” ventilation
system for the LCD monitor to
stay cool while being protected
from dust and the weather at the
same time. In addition, Sanyo
said that the CE42 was fitted
“with a tough, tamper-resistant
anti-reflection cover glass which
makes this large LCD monitor
highly suitable for use in welltrafficked
public areas as well as
in almost any kind of unprotected
outdoor area. Designers and
decorators who’ve been
searching for a weather-tough display that they can put onboard a yacht or in a
crowded public garden are now in luck with Sanyo’s CE42.”
Features 1366x768, 500 cd/m2 on-screen brightness, 178 degree V/H viewing angle,
800:1 CR, 8 ms response time, compatible with Sanyo’s PJ-Net Organizer (POA-
LN01) so it can be controlled over the internet, 3-year warranty, $7,500, honored by
the CES 2007 Innovations award in the Visual Display category.
