disc. Mass production of BD-R and BD-RE media can now be done.
Verbatim coats its discs with a ScratchGuard hard coat that protects the Blu-ray disc
from scratches and fingerprints, and permits cartridge-less implementations.
BenQ and Toshiba where quoted to release Blu-ray recorders in the next few
months, although not for the US market.

Sony announced the availability of the following BD discs:

50 GB dual layer BR-RE $60, TTM delayed until Jun 06
Sony BD supports a 2x recording speed, 72 Mbps data transfer rate.

TDK confirmed that the company was shipping 25GB
recordable and rewritable Blu-ray Disc media to retailers
nationwide.
The single-sided discs are cartridge-less, single layer, with
Durabis hard coating protecting technology that discharges
static.

Toshiba announced their 51GB HD DVD-ROM Disc, with
extended capacity able to store up to 7 hours of HD at a
sampling rate of 17 mbps.
The disc is a triple-layer HD DVD-ROM (read only) format
and still needs to secure the approval by the DVD Forum,
which Toshiba hopes they will get within this year, each
