Analysis.—Two consecutive descending fourths are the principal intervals in<br />

period A <strong>of</strong> this song. A change <strong>of</strong> rhythm <strong>and</strong> a higher pitch appear in the<br />

first <strong>and</strong> second measures <strong>of</strong> period B, followed by the descending fourths C-G<br />

<strong>and</strong> B-flat-F. The tones are those <strong>of</strong> the fourth 5-toned scale. Several renditions<br />

were recorded <strong>and</strong> show no change in pitch <strong>and</strong> only unimportant changes in<br />

the melody, these changes probably being due to differences in the words.<br />
