Dr Robert Rosenfeld has been Academic Director <strong>of</strong> the CIH Leadership Programme<br />

for <strong>Housing</strong> since 2001. Thanks are due to the many hundreds <strong>of</strong> participants who have<br />

shaped his views and <strong>of</strong>fered insights into their leadership roles in the social housing<br />

industry. In truth, they really should accept some <strong>of</strong> the blame for the contents <strong>of</strong> his<br />

submission! Aside from Robert’s role with the CIH Leadership Programme, he continues<br />

as an academic working with universities around the world lecturing on leadership,<br />

strategy, change management and entrepreneurship.<br />

Kulbir Shergill is the Head <strong>of</strong> Diversity and Inclusion at Genesis <strong>Housing</strong>. Over the past<br />

three years she has successfully helped to lead and influence attitudes and behaviours<br />

across the business to embed diversity as one <strong>of</strong> Genesis’ ‘golden threads.’ The<br />

company’s diversity work has been recognised through several high pr<strong>of</strong>ile awards<br />

including Times Top 50 Places for Women to Work, Stonewall Top 100 Employers; and<br />

recently finalists in the National Business Awards under the Leadership on Diversity<br />

category. Most significantly Kulbir has helped the organisation to articulate and measure<br />

business benefits at corporate and operational levels. Innovative work on segmenting<br />

customer groups particularly lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGTB) groups and<br />

analysing specific needs through engagement, has resulted in outstanding customer<br />

service improvements. Prior to joining Genesis, Kulbir worked with a wide range <strong>of</strong> local<br />

and national public service bodies as an executive and board member. Her most<br />

significant work was with NACRO where the organisation achieved number one rating<br />

in the Stonewall Top 100 Employers and received the British Diversity Award for its work<br />

with customers and staff. Kulbir is currently researching material for a new book<br />

focussed on innovative strategies and solutions relevant for the 21st Century.<br />

Judy Smith is part <strong>of</strong> Jay Consulting, providing services to universities, further<br />

education (FE) colleges, employer groups and other organisations that work in the<br />

lifelong learning and higher education (HE) sectors. Judy has a background in teaching<br />

health and social care studies and as a project manager in activity to widen participation<br />

and develop employability-employee learning.<br />

Trevor Smith B.Sc, MSc, is a Director <strong>of</strong> the Centre for Partnership, part <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Incommunities Group and Director <strong>of</strong> Sutton Smith. Both organisations specialise in<br />

learning, predominantly in the housing industry. Acting as an adviser, consultant and<br />

mentor he works with senior executive and non executive leaders and their teams and<br />

Boards. His approach to advising combines strategy, psychology and creativity in<br />

enabling organisational change through personal and leadership transformation. Trevor<br />

has devised a number <strong>of</strong> learning tools including the Culture Well, The Leadership and<br />
