• Construction continued on National Programme<br />

for Radiation Oncology (Phase 1) Building – with<br />

commissioning stage beginning in December <strong>2010</strong>.<br />

Cancer Control Programme<br />

• Critical Care Upgrade project completion with refurbishment<br />

of Intensive Care Unit general 9 bed unit and single isolation<br />

room. Funded through the hospital fundraising entity<br />

<strong>St</strong>. James <strong>Hospital</strong> Foundation<br />

• General ICU/CCU relatives waiting area. Funded through<br />

the hospital fundraising entity <strong>St</strong>. James <strong>Hospital</strong><br />

Foundation and from funds raised from Medical students<br />

and staff of the critical care speciality<br />

• Replacement and addition of new Magnetic Resonance<br />

Imaging equipment and associated clinical support areas,<br />

including renovation of diagnostic imaging patient waiting<br />

and staff rest areas. Funded through the hospital minor<br />

capital programme<br />

• Replacement of the Intervention Radiology equipment and<br />

supporting clinical space. Funded through the hospital<br />

minor capital programme<br />

• Outpatients’ facilities expanded with creation of four new<br />

Examination & Consultation rooms and sub waiting and<br />

patient toilet area<br />

• Expansion of Oncology patient treatment area to<br />

accommodate three additional bays including single room.<br />

Funded through hospital initiatives<br />

• Upgrade continued of Clinical Information System for<br />

monitoring critical patients<br />

• Endoscopy decontamination systems replacement<br />

programme continued<br />

• Programme to upgrade, refurbish and expand Central<br />

Pathology Laboratory facilities completed<br />

• Programme to upgrade Operating Theatre infrastructural<br />

works (Electrical; Mechanical & refurbishment) completed<br />

• Phased replacement of Operating Theatre Lights completed<br />

• Laboratory <strong>St</strong>erilisers (Media & Discard) replaced in Central<br />

Pathology Laboratory<br />

• Medical Gasses upgrade programme continued<br />

• Ward en-suite facility upgrade programme continued<br />

• Provision of UPS systems for interventional radiography<br />

rooms completed<br />

• Ward Pantry upgrades continued<br />

• Fire monitoring system upgrade, replacement and<br />

expansion hospital wide continued<br />

Future Developments Include<br />

• Haemophilia & Hepatology In-Patient Facility and Clinical<br />

Research Facility – Planning permission granted. Tender<br />

design completed. Tender issued to contractors from<br />

qualifi ed panel<br />

• Progress Centre of Excellence for Successful Ageing –<br />

to seek government approval<br />

• Site preparatory works for National Programme for<br />

Radiation Oncology – Phase 2, to include:<br />

– Facilities Management building for admin and service<br />

support areas<br />

– Convert upper fl oors <strong>Hospital</strong> 1 for clinical support<br />

area use<br />

– <strong>St</strong>orage facility for medical slides and charts<br />

– Electrical substation relocation and upgrade<br />

– MV upgrade works for the Ring Main to facilitate NPRO<br />

– Expansion and replacement of MRI facilities<br />

– Replacement/Upgrade of Interventional radiography<br />

service provision<br />

– Expansion of out patient suite facilities (additional 4<br />

Treatment & Consultation rooms)<br />

– Men Against Cancer development design development<br />

– Progression of TB Regional Facility and Laboratory facility<br />
