Research and Developments in <strong>2010</strong><br />
• Mr. Ian Fitzgerald submitted his MSc based on the<br />
Investigation of two independent Interferon Gamma<br />
assays in the detection of latent tuberculosis in immunosuppressed<br />
and immuno-competent individuals<br />
• In January <strong>2010</strong> the IMRL was present and participated in<br />
the inaugural European Reference Laboratory Network for<br />
Tuberculosis (ERLN-TB) meeting held in <strong>St</strong>ockholm Sweden<br />
• Dr. Margaret Fitzgibbon was nominated and accepted as<br />
a “Support Expert” in the European Reference Laboratory<br />
Network and attended several training programmes held in<br />
London and Milan throughout the year<br />
• Review work on the role of Non Tuberculous Mycobacteria in<br />
collaboration with the Cork Institute of technology concluded<br />
• The IMRL together with Prof. Tom Rogers jointly organised<br />
the “Focus on Infection” symposium on Tuberculosis held<br />
in the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and two staff<br />
members gave presentations<br />
• Multi-disciplinary meetings on Tuberculosis between various<br />
staff from the CREST, GUIDE and DiagIM directorates,<br />
along with staff from the IMRL, Microbiology, Pharmacy and<br />
Public Health continued on a monthly basis<br />
