Introduction<br />
The Pharmacy Department purchases, dispenses and<br />
distributes pharmaceutical and para-pharmaceutical products<br />
within the <strong>Hospital</strong>. A clinical pharmacy service is provided<br />
to all wards and a number of specialist areas to ensure safe,<br />
effective and economic use of these products.<br />
Other services include an aseptic compounding service,<br />
medicines information, outpatient dispensing to <strong>Hospital</strong><br />
5 and education and training for both patients and clinical<br />
staff. The Pharmacy Department provides all pharmaceutical<br />
services to both <strong>St</strong>. Luke’s <strong>Hospital</strong> and Our Lady’s Hospice.<br />
Each pharmacy department is now registered with the<br />
Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland, under the Pharmacy Act<br />
requirements of 2007.<br />
All areas experienced an increase in activity during <strong>2010</strong>.<br />
Summary of Developments in <strong>2010</strong><br />
• Completion of the relocation and upgrade of GUIDE<br />
satellite pharmacy<br />
• Garda Certifi cation and enhanced secure storage of<br />
controlled drugs within the main pharmacy<br />
• Completion and occupation of new accommodation for the<br />
pharmacy in Our Lady’s Hospice<br />
• Supply of all medications to Jonathan Swift inpatients<br />
